Many customers come in to Monarch Paints to take advantage of our half a century of expertise when tackling a painting project in their home. The following are some tips and tricks of the trade to get your project started right.

Choosing Colours
Choosing colours for your home is a personal and unique experience for everyone. The Colour Consultants at Monarch Paints can keep you up-to-date with the trends or help you pick classic colours that will reflect your personal style for years to come. The bottom line is that the customer loves the colours that will be in their space and that they compliment their furnishings and décor no matter what the trends of the season are.

Customers that come prepared for an in-store consultation or book an in-home consultation will get the most accurate and successful end result. If one is unsure of what they are looking for, here are a few tips on how to better help the Colour Consultants aid them in picking colours:

Preparation
It is not often that the paint itself will fail on you. Ninety percent of the problems involving paint have to do with poor preparation. Proper preparation of the paint will lead to better adhesion, more durability and easier maintenance in the future.

Ordering Paint
The sales people in the retail store only know as much information about your painting needs as you tell them. Being prepared when ordering paint makes the process quicker and more accurate. Measure your painting surface beforehand, as this will help you order the correct amount of paint.

When speaking with a salesperson give them the information you have about the surface you are painting. This includes: square footage, substrate (latex or oil paint, varnished wood, plastic laminate, drywall etc.) and the room that the surface is in.

Application
Monarch Paints offers all the painting tools you will need to apply your paint. When ordering the paint the sales person will offer suggestions on the appropriate tools for your task.

Maintenance
Save any extra paint for future touch-ups. When ordering the paint later on it is always a good idea to bring the entire paint can into the store (even if it’s empty) including the lid. It is recommended to save a paint chip and the receipt with the location marked on it just in case the cans are thrown out. The receipt retains specific information that could make your ordering easier in the future such as; formulas and product codes.
